APPS IN FINANCE: Paynow Top Up

Many excellent apps to solve transactional barriers that were created more than a decade ago continue to pour on play store and AppStore for Zimbabwean Market. Everyone who was involved in online business or purchased products on eBay, Amazon and other online retail sites knows the hustle one had to go through to pay for the item, let alone receive payments online.

Until recently, anyone in Zimbabwe wasn't allowed to use PayPal services as a merchant or for personal transactions. They now only allow to purchase using PayPal but you can't receive payments. This, however led to the development of apps and services similar to PayPal where Zimbabweans can purchase and receive payments online.

This week we are going to look at few apps in finance (Video Demos are coming soon). Our first review is the PayNow Top Up App, an android app found on play store.

Paynow Top Up App was developed by Softwarehouse Private Limited, a member of Webdev group who developed classifieds website and other websites for online services. They provide payment services.

You can pay anything online in Zimbabwe using VPayments or mobile wallets through their site. Merchants and individuals can also receive payments through paynow. This allowed the growth of online business in Zimbabwe as many small to medium business are using their services.

Paynow Top Up allows you to buy airtime for all networks and vouchers for Internet service providers in the comfort of your home. Especially nowadays where no one is willing to purchase things like airtime using cash, you can use this free service to top up your airtime or someone's online.

Many people now use at least two SIM cards to access different services offered by Econet, Netone and Telecel. However the majority uses ecocash as a mobile wallet which makes it easy for you to by your Buddie airtime but you can't top up your Netone or Telecel SIM card with ecocash services.

With Paynow Top Up Android App you can directly recharge any SIM card using Zimswitch, Ecocash, Telecash or MasterCard. This saves you time to go to a tuck-shop or in the street to look for an airtime vendor with cash which is now more precious in presence of shortages.

The other thing that makes this service cool is that, there are not many steps or complications in making a payment. You just enter your email, a phone number and chose payment option. If using ecocash option, the process is automatic and you just need to enter your password on a pop up message from ecocash and you are done

The only disadvantage is that you must have data to do the process, though the amount is insignificant.

NB: This is a mobile app review based on personal experience, I have no strings attached to Paynow. For any enquiries on the app, visit their website www.webdev.co.zw
